Castle Mountain

seeming to stand out in the centre of the valley is a very remarkable mountain… which looks exactly like a giant castle.” – james hector

so-named in 1858 by one james hector for its castle-like appearance, castle mountain in banff national park was renamed mount eisenhower by prime minister mackenzie-king after world war 2 in honour of the american president’s impending canadian visit. In 1979, its original name was re-instated.

here it is photographed on a beautiful summer afternoon with wonderful floating clouds about as i stood at the edge of the bow river.
