the green tumbling

The Green Tumbling

just north of pemberton, bc is nairn falls provincial park providing many hiking opportunities along the green river and beyond. photographed here is a side view of the falls as the river cascades over a small canyon into the pemberton valley. i opted for a faster shutter speed to ‘freeze’ the water and to show its power.

Water, Earth & Sky

the skies on the northern shores of cuba are quite similar to those found in southern florida – it’s barely 150 miles away! always great large cumulus clouds about…

clouds before the storm

Clouds Before The Storm

a long holiday in cuba was a wonderful way to blow off steam. this was taken during the first few days of that june holiday. after spending an incredible day at the beach, i went along the shoreline in the early evening to take some shots. on my return to the hotel (pictured), there were some beautiful clouds forming as the sun was setting.

what you have here is the reflecting sunlight off the hotel facade. it would later turn out that there was a storm rolling in and we had a massive thunderstorm that night. the next morning, it was like nothing had ever happened…

sunset explosion

Sunset Explosion

on one of the first couple of nights in varadero, cuba i climbed to the top of the puntarena hotel to catch the sunset. there were a couple of military personnel there and thought they were going to ask me to leave… but they did not. we communicated with lots of hand gestures as I do not speak spanish and they did not speak english.

as the sunset was starting to work its magic, I went back to my tripod and camera and captured this beautiful, albeit ominous looking cloud formation.

Canal Sunset

on one of the first couple of nights in varadero, cuba i climbed to the top of the puntarena hotel to catch the sunset. there were a couple of military personnel there and thought they were going to ask me to leave… they did not. we communicated with lots of hand gestures as I do not speak spanish and they did not speak english. as the sunset was starting to work its magic, i went back to my tripod and camera and captured this shot with the paso malo canal in view.

snow-covered trees

b050-31rev

winter in vancouver; we were experiencing crazy weather… something they call an inversion, i think. there was a thick blanket of fog at ground level and we hadn’t seen the sun for days! if one had headed up to the mountains as i had, one would have seen the entire lower mainland covered in fog, but up in the mountains the sun was shining like crazy! when the clouds and fog were finally breaking up, i high-tailed it back up to mount seymour and was rewarded with this spectacular sight!
