harvest moon from the hills

Harvest Moon From The Hills

full moon; supermoon; harvest moon… what a glorious sight on monday, september 8th, 2014 from the paramin hills in trinidad. headed up there early to catch the sunset before my wife and daugther had their yoga class ‘under the full moon’ at the north deck (a banquet facility under and open sky with beautiful coastal views) – i had promised myself that i would attempt to photograph the next supermoon from those hills; so the opportunity was there!

quite frankly it snuck up on me and it made its appearance earlier than anticipated. i had been photographing a so-so sunset in the other direction, when i noticed it in the sky already. went back to the car, switched up lenses and started shooting into the night sky…

window and street lamp

Window And Street Lamp

on a quick weekend trip to montreal, i managed to get a few hours of touring in after attending a family function. this window and street lamp were photographed in the old port area of the city.

i don’t get back to montreal nearly enough – i know there are many gems there for the camera…

tree swirl

Tree Swirl

spending a day or two in the mt. baker-snoqualmie national forest was always a lot of fun… a little exploration got me to this wonderful old stump. sometimes you get lucky – look how the clouds lined up beautifully! lovely when mother nature provides such beauty!

weathered doors

VB4925

taking my wife to a conference brought me to st. augustine, just east of port of spain in trinidad. visible to the north was mount st. benedict, home of the abbey complex (consisting of several buildings including a church, a monestary, a seminary, a yogurt factory and a drug rehab centre, amongst others). alas the light was too harsh and resulting photographs are not usable – but, i did come across what looked to be an abandoned building towards the very top of the complex – these doors were there, just waiting to be photographed…

relic (b&w and with colour)

Relic (B&W) Relic (With Colour)

the original postal outlet in tortuga, trinidad, accompanied by a gorgeous tree full of texture and character – now alas a relic, as time and the elements slowly but surely take their toll on the structure…

i struggled with which version to release – monochrome or with colour – which do you prefer?

along the forest road

Along The Forest Road

the road up to fort george winds through a residential neighbourhood before continuing into the forested hills high above port of spain. along this narrow, winding road, this lovely scene was captured on my way back from the fort.

curve ahead

VA9986

in the time i’ve been in trinidad, i have driven this winding road a countless number of times and narrowed it down to this section for my first shoot on the north coast road that leads to maracas beach. though it is mostly a coastal road, there are not enough lookouts or places to pull over to take in some of the beautiful scenery along the way. where it can safely be done, the vegetation is overgrown and does not allow for scenic viewing – what a pity!

beyond the wing

Beyond The Wing

i used to never choose a window seat when flying – getting up is always such a hassle… admittedly though, my last number of flights, i have indeed chosen the window seat because you never know how the skies will behave. here is a shot from a flight i took this spring from port of spain to toronto… i love the abstract quality on this one 😉
