from across the lake

broke out the big lens and gave this shot another try – previous attempts had not yielded any usable results… earlier in the day, we had spent a couple of hours at the beach in st. catharines and noted how clear it was out. with that in mind, we made our way to the shores of lake ontario in lincoln, ontario that evening. the view and sky certainly did not disappoint as the toronto skyline was still remarkably clear from across the lake.

summer sky over the falls

taken from the same vantage point as a previous release, ‘fire in the sky’, this was captured in early july ’18 and also features the 3 waterfalls that make up the whole of niagara falls: american falls, bridal veil falls and horseshoe falls. a glorious summer evening with wonderful colours in the sky provided yet another magical moment in this part of the world…

lakeshore sunset 1

a sunset on the shores of lake ontario at the town of lincoln in the niagara region of southern ontario. close to home, i have taken a renewed interest in sunsets and sunrises and this spot is as good as any! i will continue coming back here, as it is close to home, to see what mother nature can offer as the months and seasons change.

preservation boardwalk 1 & 2

my daughter called me one day and sent me some snaps of a park she found in guelph, ontario and suggested that the next time i was there i should check it out… i took her up on it and we both went for about an hour-long hike in preservation park. the weather was mostly overcast with moments of sunshine breaking through the clouds. thankfully, the lighting was quite lovely on these stretches of boardwalk. i shall have to return in the autumn, perhaps…

fire in the sky

a late spring shot of the three sets of falls at niagara falls, ontario and new york. the american falls and bridal veil falls are entirely on the american side in new york state and are separated by luna island. they are at the left of the frame and run towards the centre. horseshoe falls are customarily thought of as being on the canadian side; however, that is true for about 2/3, as the remaining 1/3 is in the usa. horseshoe falls and their american counterparts are separated by goat island. collectively, they are known as niagara falls and here they are in the evening as the sun is setting and reflecting its light off of clouds above.

parkway winter

a late winter snowfall prompted me to drive and seek some winter scenery. i was not disappointed while exploring the niagara-on-the-lake portion of the niagara parkway: a stand of snow-covered trees beyond a vineyard.

flying in the mist

my disdain for winter aside, here is a lovely morning shot of the niagara river as it makes its way towards horseshoe falls at niagara falls, ontario. visible, are a number of prominent structures on the canadian side including the niagara skywheel (ferris wheel), some hotels, table rock and the skylon tower. talk about beautiful light and colour in the sky… also notice all the birds flying in the mist created by the powerful falls.

frozen by the falls

for the record, i don’t like winter. why humans are subjected to this inhumane season is beyond me… but it does make for some wonderful photographs. this was photographed early one winter morning earlier this year at niagara falls, ontario.

freedom arches

two of the three freedom arches over the reflecting pool at nathan phillips square in Toronto with the fountains and 3d toronto sign all lit up. originally just an architectural feature in the square, they were officially dedicated as ‘freedom arches’ in 1989, to commemorate those who fought to obtain or defend freedom.
