flying in the mist

my disdain for winter aside, here is a lovely morning shot of the niagara river as it makes its way towards horseshoe falls at niagara falls, ontario. visible, are a number of prominent structures on the canadian side including the niagara skywheel (ferris wheel), some hotels, table rock and the skylon tower. talk about beautiful light and colour in the sky… also notice all the birds flying in the mist created by the powerful falls.

seal rocks

Seal Rocks

the rock formation present at the north end of ocean beach at lands end in san francisco is called seal rocks. so named for the sea lions that used to ‘haul out’ on the rock formation. apparently the sea lions have migrated to pier 39 and it is usually only birds to be found there (as this photo would indicate):

“a few california sea lions began ‘hauling out’ on pier 39′s k-dock shortly after the loma prieta earthquake hit san francisco in october 1989. by january 1990, the boisterous barking pinnipeds started to arrive in droves and completely took over k-dock, much to the exasperation of pier 39′s marina tenants. the marina staff turned to the marine mammal center, an organization devoted to the rescue and rehabilitation of marine mammals, for advice about their new slippery tenants. After much debate and research, the experts from the marine mammal center recommended that the sea lions stay in their newfound home.” ~ pier39.com

a fond farewell

A Fond Farewell

a fond farewell indeed… on the last few days of my trinidad adventure, i headed up to blanchisseuse, a small village on the north coast of trinidad. i had meant to (finally) photograph the old spring bridge at the end of the paved north coast road. alas, when i got there, there were construction crews and heavy equipment about – so much for capturing a piece of history!

i made my way back towards home stopping here and there… fittingly there was some inclement weather about as i set up to photograph this scene from a covered concrete deck on the beach. farewell to thee trinidad and to all my trini friends… you will me missed.

fly to the sun

b047-36rev

driving along highway 5 from san diego to los angeles, i had the opportunity to veer off onto highway 1 and make a pit stop in newport beach for dinner. made my way to one of the beaches as the sun was setting – a nice end to a wonderful day in a beautiful part of the world!
