the invisible eclipse moon

alas, the much-ballyhooed lunar eclipse of July 27, 2018 was not visible to north americans. however, on the very early morning of the 28th, the gorgeous full moon, after the eclipse, was making its way to the horizon in the western skies. from my home in st. catharines, ontario, i have a western exposure and can usually see the moon in the early morning… this one was special as it was a copper or orange colour on a clear, dark blue morning sky. photographed with my 150mm-600mm lens and then interpolated to enlarge for printing, i am rather happy with this one! ūüėČ

under the tube

it’s not often that you see a tubular cloud formation. thankfully, i was at the right place at the right time a few weeks ago while scoping out a sunset from the shores of lake ontario¬†at the town of lincoln. it is amazing that less than an hour after its appearance, it quite simply vanished…

lakeshore sunset 1

a sunset on the shores of lake ontario at the town of lincoln in the niagara region of southern ontario. close to home, i have taken a renewed interest in sunsets and sunrises and this spot is as good as any! i will continue coming back here, as it is close to home, to see what mother nature can offer as the months and seasons change.

stone to crystal

Stone To Crystal

no longer living in toronto, i did have the opportunity to stay at the posh park hyatt across the street from the royal ontario museum (rom) this past summer. a notoriously early riser,¬†i let my body alarm clock wake me as usual; by the time i¬†awoke at around 5:15am, daybreak had already begun. i hurried out to the streets and set up to shoot the latest incarnation of the rom buildings. on the left is the original facade from the early 1900’s while the right depicts the new, ultra-modern entrance to the museum known as ‘the crystal’.

the moon was indeed out and a pick-up truck stopped for a traffic light along bloor street. the cloudless sky was that early morning blue and it reflected off of the crystal’s glass panels.

A Whisper Of Blue Light 1

A Whisper Of Blue Light 2

A wide angle view (#1) and a closer view (#2) as dusk was settling in and that period of blue light made its appearance over the Toronto skyline.

red & blue

Red & Blue

a couple of fishing boats moored in trout river, a quaint fishing village on the west coast of newfoundland. on this day, i met a fisherman who explained to me that lobster season was at an end and that they were now preparing for the halibut one.

summer magic

Summer Magic

never having had the opportunity to witness a true-to-life iceberg (much less photographing one), the possibility of seeing some was a powerful attraction and ultimately cemented my decision to visit newfoundland once and for all!

i had seen this beautiful iceberg from the road leading to cape spear earlier in the morning – a chance encounter with a young lady preparing for an event at the cape’s parking lot convinced me to hike the trail…¬†a presumed short excursion turned into a 4 hour adventure to and from gunners’ cove.

witnessing this icy monolith and capturing it made for a beautiful heartfelt experience that i will cherish for a long, long time…
