the inn

The Inn

the original grist mill in elora, ontario was constructed in 1833 and was known as the drimmie mill until it ceased operations around 1974. it was then converted into a 32-room inn called the elora mill inn. in 2010, it was sold and has been closed since for renovations. the plan is to expand the site as a banquet facility and hotel, as well as constructing an adjoining condominium complex. there is slated to be a covered bridge between the existing structure and the new one(s) across the grand river.

this is the elora mill in, as it stood, in july of 2014.

Renewal

elora is a picturesque small town in southern ontario on the banks of the grand and irvine rivers. it is home to the scenic elora gorge with its 80-foot cliffs descending into said rivers.

i had not been there in a few years and was astonished to find the elora mill inn closed for renovations – major ones at that. the leftmost building in the frame is the inn; the structure on the left foreground is the original bridge into town; the buildings on the right along the grand river are home to shops, galleries and restaurants.

this is a 6 frame stitched panorama photographed in the late afternoon of a beautiful summer’s day.
