southbound
on the southbound approach to ragged point along the cabrillo highway (highway 1) on the california coast: a still-foggy morning shot of the road.

wooden throne
by around 8:30am, the coastal drive was still quite foggy. slowly but surely i was making my way back to los angeles. i made a pit-stop at one of the turn-offs past the town of lucia and found this oddity: a wooden throne, as it were…

yucca in the fog
the coastal drive was still very foggy by the time i reached julia pfeffer burns state park, home of mcway falls: the 80 foot tower falls that apparently flow year round as mcway creek cascades onto the sandy cove below.
it was still early (around 7:30am) and as one might expect, the place was deserted… i made my way onto the waterfall overlook trail and looked for a good vantage point to shoot the scene from. spotting the (yellow) yucca flowers, i knew i wanted to include them in the frame…

obscured by fog
further down the coast on the cabrillo highway (highway 1), around hurricane point. typically, from this vantage point one would see the point sur lighthouse atop a big chunk of volcanic rock. this morning, however, the fog kept rolling in off the pacific ocean and that view is simply obscured…

the lone cypress 2
surely battered by wind and waves; exposed to the elements from its granite pedestal and secured by half-hidden cables, this is the iconic lone cypress of pebble beach in the monterey peninsula of central california.
a rainy and foggy morning for my return trip to los angeles, i took the 17-mile drive, while it was still dark, to start the day. i arrived at the lone cypress during a foggy, but thankfully, dry dawn and stood by the magnificent tree perched on the coastline.
this is the second in a series of four (4) photographs of this oft-photographed iconic landmark.
