in the field

In The Field

driving on the side roads of southwestern ontario in and around the cities and towns of london, woodstock, thamesford and ingersoll, i ended up on a dirt road around the community of beachville.

now, i am a sucker for lone trees out in a field somewhere and i will always stop and setup the gear when i stumble upon one. this particular tree may not be what i visualize in my mind’s eye, but beggars cannot be choosers, as it were… add the wonderful clouds and it was too hard to pass up! there you have it, tree in field 😉

trivia: the town of beachville happens to be the site of the first ever recorded baseball game played in north america – in 1838! it happened one year before the first game at cooperstown, new york. you can read more about it here.

island cove from above

Island Cove From Above

upon arriving in corner brook, newfoundland i checked into the tourist office and was advised that given the short stay i had planned, a must-do would be the south shore drive. it is a lovely 45 minute ride along the winding route 450, all the way to the coast and ends basically at the town of lark harbour. from there i took little port road as far as it would go. i arrived at this canyon overlooking island cove as dusk was approaching…

at rest on salmon bay

At Rest On Salmon Bay

while visiting the town of st. anthony in the great northern peninsula of newfoundland, i met a new friend, robin g., who was heading home. he offered to show me around the area he lived in before i continued on to corner brook further south. we first made our way through the tiny village of main brook. this was photographed from water st., looking out towards devarenne (bushy) island on salmon bay.

red & blue

Red & Blue

a couple of fishing boats moored in trout river, a quaint fishing village on the west coast of newfoundland. on this day, i met a fisherman who explained to me that lobster season was at an end and that they were now preparing for the halibut one.

fargo

Fargo

i am not a huge car buff, but i do appreciate, as the saying goes… this old fargo was just parked on a gravel lot in norris point, nl. unfortunately, i could find no one to talk to about it. the little bit of research i did indicates that the fargo brand initially started out as the fargo motor car company of chicago from 1913 – 1922. by 1928, the chrysler corporation had purchased it and started the fargo motor company. fargo trucks were basically dodge trucks and were sold outside the usa. the name lasted until 1972 in canada and slightly longer in other parts of the world.

anyone know how old this truck might be? model? trivia: apparently they still exist in turkey, without any connection to the chrysler corporation.
