city hall lights (colour and b&w)

vc3014

vc3014bw

nicely lit as dusk was settling in, this is the art deco-styled buffalo city hall building. after scoping out the area around, i setlled on this vantage point to photograph it. it is a 32-story building and measures approximately 378 feet from street level to the tiptop of the tower. not only is it one of the tallest buildings in western new york, but it is also one of the tallest municipal buildings in the usa.

parkway lights (colour and b&w)

vc2761

the niagara parkway with building lights glowing at dusk. i was crossing the street and looked to my left on the median as i saw cars travelling on either side of me. thought it would make an interesting shot and voila!

canal lights

vc2314

standing on the division street bridge in welland, ontario, i had the opportunity to photograph the canada day fireworks over the welland canal – bridge 13 this past summer (2016). this bridge in the heart of the city’s centre crosses a now-abandoned portion of the canal known as the welland recreational waterway.

frozen journey

VC1868

a long-awaited winter scene from niagara falls, ontario. it shows an undisturbed lower observation deck of the age-old attraction called journey behind the falls during the second to last snowfall this past winter in the area. a long exposure ensured silky smooth falls contrasted with the textured rock wall of snow and ice by the horseshoe falls on the canadian side.

the race

The Race

look! people! for those of you who have been following me for a while, you will undoubtedly notice that very rarely are there people in my shots. if they are, it’s usually incidental. in this case, i did not have a whole lot of time to prepare… it was another late afternoon at the beach and i was scoping out a place to shoot from. as i was doing that, there was a group of about 10 guys all lined up about to race each other. knowing that light was fading, i could get a long exposure of the guys running towards me by stopping down to the smallest aperture (f22 in this case). of course i wasn’t sure it was going to work – instinct kicked in and this is what resulted… 😉

what do you think? does this image work?

remnants of a jetty

Remnants Of A Jetty

another scene that i did not get to my satisfaction the first time around. these pillars belong to a once-standing jetty just off windward road in barbados bay, tobago.

interestingly, “the first session of the tobago legislative council and assembly was held in april 1768 at georgetown, barbados bay ([today called] studley park) where the first town was established, but never finished.” – mytobago.info

from the tower

From The Tower

after my twelve day jaunt in newfoundland, i spent about a week or so with my son kicking around southern ontario. our first stop was niagara falls – one of my favourite parts of the province because it is so beautifully scenic during all seasons. here we have the american falls in the foreground and a part of the canadian horseshoe falls at the back right of the photograph, captured with  long exposure from the observation tower at niagara falls state park in western new york.
