from the cove

we continued on along the georgian bay trail until it joined the bruce trail and it wasn’t long until we were captivated by the sheer beauty of indian head cove and its clear turquoise waters.

horse lake autumn

after finishing with little cove provincial park, we went back to our motel and had some breakfast. in the late morning, we made our way to the bruce peninsula national park, again just outside of tobermory, ontario.

the entrance fee paid and the car parked, we made our way to the georgian bay trail that would eventually join the bruce trail to take us to the famous grotto – the main event, if you will, of this wonderful park. the weather, though it had cleared up for a time, became unsettled again; and we would deal with ‘the weather’ for the rest of the day.

walking the trail took us along the border of horse lake for a time. a little opening in the bushes and forest revealed this scene: a little fall splendour with wonderful clouds that this kind of weather can bring…

rugged shoreline morning

still in little cove provincial park, the rains let up for a bit and we continued exploring as it was getting lighter out. the shore is not sand but rather it is covered in rounded rocks. as i made my way to the eastern end of the cove it switched to boulders and rocks, rendering it much more rugged and less accessible.

dawn of a new day

during the summer of 2018, we scheduled a family trip for the early autumn to tobermory in the bruce peninsula of ontario. that weekend finally came and we made our way up… the weather, alas, would not co-operate with us, so we took whatever it gave us and made the best of it.

the first morning offered a slight drizzle but we still ventured out very early (it was still dark when we left). our first adventure would take us to little cove beach on georgian bay, not far from town. i could tell that there were heavy clouds around and a chance at a sunrise might not be in the offering… with that, i present ‘dawn of a new day’.

a view from the tower

last stop of the day before we continued on to montreal and the weather was still rather dicey; but i decided to pay the fee and go up the 1000 islands tower. once up there, a 360 degree panorama of the region awaits you. this vantage point gives you the canadian side along with the 1000 islands international bridge to the usa. unfortunately, it was too early to have any meaningful colour change in the trees below. another month or so would have given spectacular results, i reckon… lovely clouds though 😉

tubes over the islands

continuing on along the 1000 islands parkway, the unsettled weather persisted and created wonderful tubular or roll clouds. perhaps it was a case of being in the right place at the right time, as these clouds don’t usually last too long before they morph into regular clouds.

farm along the parkway

driving to montreal for a family gathering, we ended up taking the 1000 islands parkway on what was a rather unsettled day, weatherwise. we encountered rain and generally moody weather, save for a short time when we entered the parkway. i love this part of the world and always enjoy the views that all the nooks and crannies along the road afford. here we have a farmstead on the north side of the parkway with some lovely clouds in the sky on this late september day.

under the tube

it’s not often that you see a tubular cloud formation. thankfully, i was at the right place at the right time a few weeks ago while scoping out a sunset from the shores of lake ontario at the town of lincoln. it is amazing that less than an hour after its appearance, it quite simply vanished…

from across the lake

broke out the big lens and gave this shot another try – previous attempts had not yielded any usable results… earlier in the day, we had spent a couple of hours at the beach in st. catharines and noted how clear it was out. with that in mind, we made our way to the shores of lake ontario in lincoln, ontario that evening. the view and sky certainly did not disappoint as the toronto skyline was still remarkably clear from across the lake.

lakeshore sunset 1

a sunset on the shores of lake ontario at the town of lincoln in the niagara region of southern ontario. close to home, i have taken a renewed interest in sunsets and sunrises and this spot is as good as any! i will continue coming back here, as it is close to home, to see what mother nature can offer as the months and seasons change.
