autumn at morningstar

Autumn At Morningstar

morningstar mill in all it’s fall colour splendour! the right-hand building is the grist mill that still produces flour during the summer and early fall months. the red structure on the left represents the sawmill that was once operating on the site. both reflected  on a small pond that is fed by lake gibson, a man-made reservoir that provides water to the city of st. catharines. the water eventually tumbles at decew falls, just beyond the buildings.

sawmill at morningstar

VC1257

many moons ago i saw a photo of this red structure (representing a sawmill) in a tourist magazine for the niagara region in southern ontario. i wanted a shot (no pun intended) at photographing it – so after consulting a tourist office, i nailed it down to this site in st. catharines called morningstar mill. i have been visiting this area for the last 10+ years or so, but never really captured it adequately…

anyway, fast forward to the summer of 2015 and my family and i decided to settle in st. catharines after looking around at smaller communities outside the gta (greater toronto area). lo and behold, this site is a mere 10 minute drive away from my home – accessible anytime! 😉

red & blue

Red & Blue

a couple of fishing boats moored in trout river, a quaint fishing village on the west coast of newfoundland. on this day, i met a fisherman who explained to me that lobster season was at an end and that they were now preparing for the halibut one.

a pair of reds

A Pair Of Reds

a pair of red adirondack chairs on the grounds of lobster cove head lighthouse, looking onto woody cove (water at the foreground) and the town of rocky harbour across the way. similar red chairs popped up here and there throughout my  travels in and around gros morne national park.

tulips

a071-09

newly arrived on the west coast many moons ago, day trips into washington state and exploring the pacific northwest were a regular occurrence. This from my first visit to la conner for the annual tulip festival: a barn in the middle of vast tulip fields – what a sight!
