imminence

a few minutes after the previous shot (the advance) and the storm clouds are now seemingly clawing at the aqueduct in caesarea, israel.

shortly after this series of shots, we made our way to the car just in time. it was a heavy downpour, alright…

the advance

on this morning the light was constantly changing as clouds were periodically moving in front of the sun and then away again. we were on the site for a couple of hours and eventually, it became apparent that a storm was coming off of the mediterranean sea. here you have then, the aqueduct at the beach in caesarea photographed with a storm advancing towards shore.

morning light

located roughly midway between tel aviv and haifa, caesarea maritima (the original city) was built by king herod between 25 – 13 bce. the roman aqueduct was built to supply water to the city when the wells they were using as sources of water were not sufficient.

we awoke this morning to some clouds – finally! the whole day would be unsettled, but i had hope that the shots might have more drama in them… thankfully they would.

we started out by reaching the roman aqueduct by today’s modern town of caesarea in the morning. as we arrived the sun was breaking out from the morning’s cloudy weather.

a patch of trees along the 40

having left the north of israel the day prior, we left for the south while it was still dark. our final destination would be eilat and the red sea, but there was at least one major stop to make at the town of mitzpe ramon and its incredible ramon crater. when leaving the metropolitan tel aviv area, you are essentially on the mediterranean coastline and most of the roads and highways due south pass near be’er sheva, the largest city in the negev desert. having bypassed the city, we opted to take highway 40 south instead of the main highway 6 that connects to the faster highway 90 along the dead sea. the scenery in the desert is beautiful and with the morning light how could we lose? this photo was taken in that beautiful light roughly halfway between be’er sheva and mitzpe ramon.

clouds before the storm

Clouds Before The Storm

a long holiday in cuba was a wonderful way to blow off steam. this was taken during the first few days of that june holiday. after spending an incredible day at the beach, i went along the shoreline in the early evening to take some shots. on my return to the hotel (pictured), there were some beautiful clouds forming as the sun was setting.

what you have here is the reflecting sunlight off the hotel facade. it would later turn out that there was a storm rolling in and we had a massive thunderstorm that night. the next morning, it was like nothing had ever happened…

fly to the sun

b047-36rev

driving along highway 5 from san diego to los angeles, i had the opportunity to veer off onto highway 1 and make a pit stop in newport beach for dinner. made my way to one of the beaches as the sun was setting – a nice end to a wonderful day in a beautiful part of the world!
