crashing wave 1, 2 & 3
we had one last day in israel and chose to return to the old port city of jaffa to spend it there. my wife and i just fell in love with this part of the tel aviv-yafo metropolis. taking a break from walking the streets of the old port, we returned to the car at the parking lot. there was a certain something with the light at this time of day and the mediterranean sea seemed a bit more agitated than normal. i set my gear up on the port wall and observed wave after wave crashing.

mount of olives
so named for the olive groves that used to cover its slopes, mount olivet or the mount of olives stands adjacent to the old city of jerusalem in israel. it has been used as a jewish burial site for over 3000 years and holds over 150 000 graves.
here it is photographed in the early evening with the al-aqsa mosque in the left foreground.

ancient corridor revisited
the more things change, the more they stay the same… here we are back in jerusalem’s old jewish quarter, some 23 years after i first photographed this scene. my first rendition of this place was photographed on slide film during my last visit to israel. this one was shot with my dslr. owing to a less-than-optimal scan of my slide, this version has better clarity, but aside from that, not much has changed in this ancient space…

the domed shrine
the world headquarters of the baha’i faith is located on mount carmel in haifa, israel. the baha’i gardens, that include the hanging gardens (garden terraces) and the domed shrine of the ab were completed in 2001 and are a unesco world heritage site.
photographed is the lower complex, from street level at the base of mount carmel, shortly after dusk.

stormfront
having started out the day with some cloud cover, we had visited the aqueduct at caesarea. just after finishing my shoot there, we got a heck of a rainstorm that lasted about a half hour or so… our next stop was to visit some of my wife’s family in haifa, the northern port city in israel on the mediterranean.
the family visit completed, we went to visit a couple of sights. here is the port city from above as a stormfront was moving in (or out).

imminence
a few minutes after the previous shot (the advance) and the storm clouds are now seemingly clawing at the aqueduct in caesarea, israel.
shortly after this series of shots, we made our way to the car just in time. it was a heavy downpour, alright…

the advance
on this morning the light was constantly changing as clouds were periodically moving in front of the sun and then away again. we were on the site for a couple of hours and eventually, it became apparent that a storm was coming off of the mediterranean sea. here you have then, the aqueduct at the beach in caesarea photographed with a storm advancing towards shore.
